A highly skilled music teacher in East Leeds
I have extensive musical experience as a school teacher, bandsman, chorister and a conductor and I specialise in both the piano and trombone. Experience the joy of learning music.
My piano career started at the age of 6 and I achieved Grade 8 in ABRSM and LCM by the age of 14. After that, I chose to join the armed forces.
A musical journey
Being a member of the volunteer bands with the Royal Navy and retiring as assistant conductor to the Royal Marine Colour Sergeant Bandmaster was a big achievement. This experience led to further study in this field and summer courses with Laszlo Marosi and Guy Wolfenden with an opportunity to explore the professional world of conducting, covering stage musicals, orchestras, many bands and ensembles. Conducting the Darlington Community Wind Band, Garforth Jubilee Brass Band and the Micklefield Male Voice Choir increased my passion for music.
More about me
While serving in the Royal Navy I undertook an Honours Degree in Humanities with Music through the Open University. Retiring from the forces I decided that I would like to teach music and subsequently went to Durham university to study for a PGCE. The David Young Community Academy in Seacroft, Leeds helped me achieve qualified teacher status. After challenging myself to retake Grade 8 in a year I completed the Piano Teaching Course provided by the European Piano Teachers Association of which I am a member. https://epta-uk.org
